Update: PPF Calculator and Tracker

This is an update to the Excel PPF calculator and Tracker posted yesterday.

Thanks to suggestions from Sundaram Anathakrishnan, Hemanth Chandra, Basavaraj Tonagatti and Deepak Rao the following changes have been incorporated.

1) The logic associated with withdrawal limits  and loan availability has been checked and updated. They are now in sync with this resource sent by Mr. Sundaram Anathakrishnan.

2) The user now has an option to input whether the investment was made before or after the 5th of the month. I forgot all about this earlier!

3) The user can now input the exact month in which the withdrawal is made

4) An extension tracker for  a user who has extended the tenure by 5 years. Two extension blocks are covered.

Please check the sheets and let me know if there are errors and if any more features need to be included.  I would like to thank Karthikeyan Chellappa for making the original calculator (included) from which the tracker was made. It would not have been possible without his effort.

If I am correct we have the option to increase the tenure by 5 years 2 times. so totally we can keep money for 25 years. I think this option is not provided in this calculator. Please let me know if I am wrong.

    Thanks,

You can increase the tenure by 5 years, any number of times. As mentioned in the post, 2 five year extension periods are covered.

Thanks for updating the Excel PPF calculator.

One feature which may be added is the option of changing the PPF interest rate in midst of a financial year. This has happened before, and there is no denying that nothing prevents it from happening again.

Please do add it at your earliest convenience.

Sorry. Am not going to do this. The main reason I do not password protect my files is for users to evaluate them and change them as per need. The interest rate change can be done with each by observing how the interest is calculated.

Very good one. Just a thought: if I choose investment frequency as Annual, the sheet assumes that I deposit at the start of the FY (April 1st-5th). Can you make it more conservative, like deposit is made in the middle of the FY - say August, instead of best case scenario? Alternatively, option can be given to the user which month to invest the amount in. If frequency is monthly, then this is moot.
