Ever since the announcement of the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS), I had assumed that it would also apply to the Union Government’s Central Autonomous Bodies (CABs) (which include all the IITs; see a full list in the link below).
That is not the case. Contrary to some reports online, none of the official notifications about UPS state that it is applicable to CABs or any entity other than central government employees.
A colleague shared a notification from the Department of Higher Education that CABs are not yet eligible for the UPS until the government explicitly includes them as eligible. So, until then, the NPS will continue!
So much for my articles on “why I will not switch from the NPS to the UPS!” This makes me wonder if PSUs are in the same boat as CABs. If no notification has been issued to choose the UPS before June 30th, it’s better to seek official clarification. Update on 23rd June, the government extended the deadline to Sep 30th
