As readers may know, five mutual fund portfolios can be compared with the Google Sheets-based freefincal mutual fund portfolio overlap tool.
Mr Sundararajan Srinivasan has updated the tool by replacing the existing (incomplete) Stock Sector listing with the standard SEBI classification.
Features
- It allows you to compare the portfolio of five mutual funds. These can be a mix of equity, hybrid, and debt mutual funds (excluding overnight funds).
- Suppose mf1, mf2,mf3,mf4 and mf5 are the funds chosen; we find the no of common stocks and percentage overlap in equity between mf1 and mf2; mf1 and mf3; …. mf2 vs m4 … mf4 vs mf5 (all ten combinations).
- We can compare the sectoral distributions. For example, mf1 has 10% of pains while mf2 has 5% of banks, and mf4 has 25% of foreign equity.
- We can compare the credit rating distribution in the case of hybrid funds and debt funds. For, e.g. mf1 has 15% of SOV bonds, mf2 has 5% of treasury bills, mf3 has 7% of AA bonds rated by CRISIL while mf4 has 9% of AA bonds rated by CARE, etc.
- The portfolios are downloaded from Moneycontrol. The sheet is blazing fast on Google Sheets.
- What is the price of the sheet? The sheet is free but available only to those who purchase the freefincal mutual fund (and stock) portfolio tracker on Google Sheets.

Our new book for kids: “Chinchu Gets a Superpower!” is now available! Most investor problems can be traced to a lack of informed decision-making. We made bad decisions and money mistakes when we started earning and spent years undoing these mistakes. Why should our children go through the same pain? What is this book about? As parents, what would it be if we had to groom one ability in our children that is key not only to money management and investing but to any aspect of life? My answer: Sound Decision Making. So, in this book, we meet Chinchu, who is about to turn 10. What he wants for his birthday and how his parents plan for it, as well as teaching him several key ideas of decision-making and money management, is the narrative. What readers say!
Must-read book even for adults! This is something that every parent should teach their kids right from their young age.
